A Case of High-energy Laser Physiotherapy for ACL Injury ( Anterior Cruciate Ligament )

A Case of High-energy Laser Physiotherapy for ACL Injury ( Anterior Cruciate Ligament )

2023-08-29 658

1.Patient Information

Name: Jason

Sex: Male

Age: 55 years old

Occupation: Truck driver

Symptoms: The movement of the left knee joint has been limited for more than 4 months.

2.Patient's Medical History

The patient injured the medial collateral ligament and anterior cruciate ligament of the left knee joint due to accidental work, resulting in limited movement of the left knee joint. The local hospital gave the patient symptomatic treatment such as promoting blood circulation, reducing swelling, and relieving pain, and allowed him to recuperate at home for 2 months.

Two months later, the patient still felt the movement disorder and pain of the left knee joint, so he continued to be admitted to the hospital for treatment. The doctor performed reconstruction of the posterior cruciate ligament of the knee joint on the patient, and the patient was discharged in stable condition after the operation.

After discharge, the patient still felt limited flexion of the left knee joint with pain.

3.Symptoms and Inspection Reports

The anterior and posterior cruciate ligaments of the left knee joint were loose, and the left calf moved backward. Poor joint stability and joint swelling. The flexion angle was limited, and the flexion was 30°, and the medial side of the left knee and the lower edge of the patella were painful. The VAS score was 5 points.

4.Treatment Plan

①High-energy laser treatment: 5 times a week, 600S each time, gradually increasing the power from 8W to 12W

图片5-1.jpg

LunMed high-energy lasers uses 980nm, 650nm, 915nm and 1064nm laser combined with laser, which has stronger tissue penetration. The penetration depth can reach 12cm, which can act more deeply on the patient's tissue. Significantly promote blood circulation in local tissues, reduce inflammation, relieve muscle pain, joint pain, and increase tissue healing ability and other symptoms. It provides a non-invasive and non-invasive treatment plan for patients with tissue pain and muscle strain.

At the same time, the LunMed can store precise and customized treatments for patients' symptoms, with more than 4,000 built-in protocols. It also has continuous output mode and pulse output mode. In continuous mode, the average output power is up to 26W, which can provide safe and effective treatment for patients.

②Ultrasonic therapy: 5 times a week, 2MHZ/time, power 1.5W/cm2

③Low-frequency electrical stimulation: the waveform is square wave, the frequency is 100HZ, and the time is 20min

④Exercise therapy: patella up and down, left and right loosening, knee joint weight-bearing, increasing from 10% of body weight to 50%, quadriceps femoris and hamstring muscle strength training

5.Treatment Results

After 3 weeks of treatment, the knee flexion angle reached 110°. Gait is basically normal. Joint swelling subsided significantly. The pain was greatly relieved, and the VAS score was 2 points.

6.Conclusion

In this case, high-energy laser combined with other physical therapy was used for treatment. The physical properties of ultrasound help soften scars, promote muscle and ligament repair, and reduce pain. Utilize the biological effects of high-energy laser, such as biological stimulation, diathermy, etc., to improve blood circulation in damaged parts, enhance metabolism, and quickly achieve anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and detumescence effects. Use low-frequency electrical stimulation to stimulate the quadriceps and hamstrings, enhance muscle strength, and improve the stability of the knee joint.
