Root canal therapy, also known as Endodontic treatment, is a procedure in dentistry to treat pulp necrosis and root infection. Root canal treatment is the complete removal of infected pulp and decomposition products using specialized instruments. After root canal irrigation, disinfection and strict filling of root canals, bacteria can be isolated from entering the root canal for reinfection, preventing the occurrence of periapical lesions or promoting the healing of periapical diseases. In general, successful root canal treatment requires two steps: first, complete removal of the source of infection and bacteria, and second, tight sealing of the root canal.

Root canal therapy is generally divided into three steps:

① Root canal preparation stage: Before root canal preparation, preoperative evaluation of root canal therapy, medullary cavity preparation and determination of working length should be carried out, followed by the stage of root canal preparation. Since the root canal system is very complex, the preparation of any instrument and any method cannot reach the entire root canal system, so the combination of mechanical preparation and chemical preparation is very important.

② Root canal disinfection stage: root canal disinfection to completely remove the infection in the root canal is one of the key steps to ensure the effect of root canal treatment. The thermal effect of laser can not only disinfect the root canal, but also promote the healing of the periapical tissue. It is a new and effective disinfection method in root canal therapy.

③ Root canal filling stage: During root canal treatment, when filling the root canal, we must grasp the timing of filling. Generally, there is no symptoms, no obvious percussion pain, no odor in the root canal, no exudation, and no acute periapical inflammation. Symptoms can be filled.

*Attention:

① The treatment time should not exceed 2 minutes. During the treatment, the laser fiber should be pulled up and down, and do not stay in one place.

② Since most root canals are bent and affect the entry of optical fibers into the root canal, the root canal bending should be eliminated as much as possible during root canal preparation, especially the dentin protrusions blocked by the root canal orifice should be removed.

③ Be gentle during the treatment, do not force the optical fiber into the root canal to prevent the optical fiber from breaking in the root canal.
